COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE:  This covers your vehicle for losses resulting from incidents other than collision.  It covers damages to your vehicle if it is stolen, damaged by flood, fire, animals and windshields.  It pays to fix your vehicle less the deductible you choose.  This coverage is not required by the state, but your lender or lease company may require it.
COLLISION COVERAGE:  This covers damage to your vehicle when your vehicle hits an object or another vehicle.  It pays to fix your vehicle less the deductible you choose.  This coverage is not required by the state, but your lender or lease company may require it.
BODILY INJURY LIABILITY (BI):  This covers other people's bodily injuries or death for which you are responsible for.  Claims for bodily injury include, medical bills, loss of income, pain and suffering.  Bodily injury does NOT cover you or other people on your policy.  This is mandatory in the state, and the minimum requirements are $25,000 per person/$50,000 per occurrence.
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY (PD):  This covers you if your vehicle damages someone else's property, for example, another vehicle, fence or house.  This is mandatory in the state, and the minimum requirements are $25,000 per occurrence.
UNINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE:  This covers you, the insured members of the household and your passengers for bodily injuries, damage, or death caused by an at fault uninsured driver.  If the other driver has no insurance, your policy will cover medical expenses, up to the limit on your policy.  This is mandatory in the state, and the minimum requirements are $25,000 per person/$50,000 per occurrence.
UNDERINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE:  This covers you, the insured members of the household and your passengers for bodily injuries, damage, or death caused by a person with insufficient insurance.  If the other driver has insufficient insurance, your policy will meet the difference up to the limit on your policy.  This is mandatory in the state, and the minimum requirements are $25,000 per person/$50,000 per occurrence.
MEDICAL PAYMENTS:  This covers medical expenses to you and your passengers injured in an accident.  The policy pays per person up to the limit on your policy.  This is not required by the state.
CAR RENTAL REINBURSMENT:  This covers renting a vehicle if your vehicle is not drivable or while your vehicle is being repaired because of a covered accident.  This is an option that can be on some or all your vehicles on your policy.
ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE:  This is a reimbursement for towing, lock out, and road side help up to the limit you have on your policy.  Some companies offer this option per policy, and some companies per vehicle.
RENTING A CAR:  The insurance coverage you have on your personal auto policy applies to the rental vehicle.  It does NOT cover "down time", meaning if the vehicle is in an accident, and needs to be in the shop for 10 days, you still have to pay the daily rental fee for those 10 days.  "Down time" can be covered if you purchase the insurance from the rental car company.
TRAILERS:  They do not need to be listed on your auto policy unless you want physical damage coverage.  The liability follows the vehicle that is pulling the trailer.  You do not need a proof of insurance to get a trailer licensed, that is why it is not necessary to list them on your policy.
